  • Why I Publish on LinkedIn: The Power of Storytelling

    Robbie Abed
    15 Apr 2015 | 8:00 am
In the second post of a three-part series, LinkedIn asks members to share why they publish on LinkedIn. Robbie Abed is the Director of Marketing at Y Media Labs – a mobile interactive agency for leading brands and emerging startups. Why do you feel it’s important to share your professional perspectives with the world? Career advice always sounds the same: meet the right people, don’t play office politics, work hard, and do good work. It all means nothing in the end unless you can relate it to your specific situation. Telling someone to always negotiate their salary is different than…
  • Introducing LinkedIn Elevate: Helping Companies Empower Their Employees To Share Content

    Will Sun
    13 Apr 2015 | 12:00 am
Lots of professionals share content – like articles, blog posts, and presentations – on social and professional networks to strengthen their professional brands. And lots of companies share content on social and professional networks to attract talent, and market and sell their products and services. But relatively few companies recognize that when they empower their employees to be social professionals, they not only change the trajectory of their employees’ careers, they change the trajectory of their businesses as well. For example, when a LinkedIn member shares six pieces of…
  • Why the Simple Act of Sharing Pays Dividends

    Kevin Simon

Social media makes it easy to share. We dash off breezy updates about our vacations, post photos of cocktails, share the latest Jimmy Kimmel “Mean Tweets” segment – almost without a second thought. But when it comes to sharing professional content, people pause. Why is that? Perhaps it’s because we all want to be seen as smart, as an expert in our field. We want to come across as being on top of our game. And we’re not quite sure whether the thing we’re about to share meets that bar. Here’s my advice: get over it! If you feel the comment, article, or post you’re about to…

  • Manager’s Choice on LinkedIn Groups

    Jason Alba
    17 Mar 2015 | 3:45 pm
This is for people who run, admin, or own a LinkedIn Group. There’s this cool thing at the top that will cycle through an image you have, plus any “discussions” that you flag as manager’s choice.  I think you can have up to 7.  It looks like this: (the arrow is pointing to a user navigation icon to scroll through the manager’s choice posts) I forgot how to add/remove posts from here, thinking that you go into Manage and will see a list to manage. That’s now how you do it, though.  Instead, you click on a Discussion you want to add, and towards the bottom…

There are two major design issues that LinkedIn should fix with regard to “posts.”  Posts are the articles you can write… for a while they were only written by “influencers,” but now pretty much everyone can write them. I don’t know how long LinkedIn will keep this feature in place, but let’s assume it will be around longer than the uber-userful “Answers.” Anyway, I love notes, except for a 2.5 things: First, I want to see what other people write and contribute to an idea… and right now that’s a major pain (read: nearly…

Boo, hiss. Apparently we can now see last names on 3rd degree search results… which is a great move… and long overdue.  But this new commercial use limit on search? They say: ” If you reach the commercial use limit, your activity on LinkedIn indicates that you’re likely using LinkedIn for commercial use, like hiring or prospecting.” Um, or you are a job seeker who is out of money and working your butt off to find networking contacts. The only good thing about this is that it forces you to (a) do better searches, and (b) do something with the search…

Last night I watched ESPN’s 30 for 30 Shorts: Unhittable: Sidd Finch and the Tibetan Fastball. As I watched the show it occurred to me that this story absolutely relates to LinkedIn. Seriously? Seriously. Many professionals take their incomplete LinkedIn profile for granted. Collectively, my team and I have trained more than 7,500+ business professionals. So, it is fair to say that we have seen a lot of exceptional people let their online identity go by the wayside. • Formatting Content for LinkedIn

    Alicia Dodd
    26 Mar 2015 | 3:30 am
As a company or business, a primary marketing goal is to position your brand in a way that showcases the organization at its best. In a physical sense, this is done through marketing and branded materials such as brochures and business cards. Online, this is achieved primarily through your website. With your website being the primary place to market your business, it becomes imperative that shared content on the site is formatted correctly. What do I mean? We’ve all seen someone share an article or link and the preview box shows up incomplete. Sometimes there is a picture missing, or maybe…
