9 Feb 2010 | 10:17 amThere are many reasons why I personally want an iPad. Here’s a few: Surfing social media, like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook, on my sofa while watching TV in a more relaxed manner than with my laptop Letting the kids use it to watch downloaded TV programs and movies in the car Having the ability to say I have the latest cool shiny toy (yes, I’m addicted to gadgets) But beyond my personal use, Marketers must be salivating over this product. The group's functions offer a form of interaction, but nothing in the realm of social networking in a pure sense of communicating directly with your peers. Newspapers can survive as portals, content service providers
30 Jul 2008 | 7:55 amThe last few years have not been kind to newspapers. Everywhere you turn, there is word of layoffs and bleak financial news, but Joe Lichtman offers a survival strategy in his latest FastForward blog; it involves a two-pronged digital approach that could be applied to practically any big city paper. First, Lichtman prescribes transforming a newspaper's website into a go-to portal for all things related to the city where the paper publishes, instead of just an online version of the daily paper. That might mean including links to competitor's content, as Boston.com has done with its local…

Can I purchase licenses in the US for my India employees to use?
9 Feb 2010 | 9:52 amI am having trouble getting a clear message on this. It seems to be a standard process to purchase a license in the US because (a) some vendors don't accept orders from some countries and (b) there's some customs/tax requirements. For example, one purchase for a $79 piece of software would require some incredibly expensive international wire transfer. For another example, tax on a $629 piece of software is 40%. Ethically OK? thanks, Jeff -
