Hello everyone, as today marks the final day of September, before we all journey into October, I wanted to take a look-back over September as it unfolded. On the 1st September, I published my 2nd book, A Year in Photography, which is packed with a lot of information, and is also bigger and much better than my first book: “My Journey Through Photography”. Despite recurring problems with Microsoft Office Word 2013’s server claiming that it went down, I was still able to publish the book with no problem whatsoever. A few short days after the release of the 2nd book, I updated…

Check out this post on Job-Hunt from Laura Smith-Proulx: The Best LinkedIn Job Title When You Are Unemployed The whole article is great – I want to focus on #1 and #2. Most of the time I see the job title (and professional headline, or as she calls it in #3, the headline) as a brag statement.  It is a part of history.  It is something that happened in the past. The problem with that is that a LinkedIn Profile (as well as a resume) is a marketing document.  Because of that, you shouldn’t necessarily focus on the past.  You should focus on what you want.  The future.  Why the…

More than ever, students go to college because they want to get jobs — good jobs. To that end, students and parents want to know which schools give them the best chance at getting a desirable job after graduation. This is where we can help. By analyzing employment patterns of over 300 million LinkedIn members from around the world, we figured out what the desirable jobs are within several professions and which graduates get those desirable jobs. As a result, we are able to rank schools based on the career outcomes of their graduates. Defining “desirable jobs” We define a desirable…

I saw this on a LinkedIn group I’m on: LinkedIn Removes Introduction Requests to 3rd Degree Connections Maybe people just weren’t using the Introduction requests. I had for a while, but LinkedIn had limited them, which was dumb.  I have a feeling people just weren’t using them much.  And those who did use them didn’t have much success. I think the main reason they are gone, though, is that it forces people to upgrade.  Many of the changes LinkedIn has made in the last few years (since a little before the IPO) that have left people scratching there heads were to get…

So LinkedIn is not discontinuing this feature, but it’s weakening it. Note: if you don’t use gmail, don’t worry about this I guess it was inevitable that LinkedIn would put up high walls around Rapportive’s functionality, and cut off other systems.  Kind of a play from the 1990′s, imo. Oh well, I had it, but didn’t use it that much.  The author of the article was, I think, too enthusiastic with this line:  “If you’re unfamiliar with Rapportive, you don’t email enough.” asdf

It’s an interesting twist, taking CRM to the next level. Applying the AI to CRM isn’t necessarily new, but it’s cool in this case because of all the data LinkedIn has at its fingertips. One of the more hotly debated issues regarding LinkedIn is how many LinkedIn connections you should have. Some believe that more connections is the way to go regardless of any real relationship you have while others advocate for fewer, more intimate connections.   Personally, I prefer more of a hybrid approach. I don’t want 20,000 connections because I think it’d be too much to manage. However, I’m okay moving beyond my inner circle of people I know or have done business with because regardless of what LinkedIn says about only connecting with people you know, they…
