We are excited to announce that we reached a big milestone today: there are now more than 300 million LinkedIn members in the world! More than half of these members come from outside of the U.S., while there are 100 million members in the U.S. While this is an exciting moment, we still have a long way to go to realize our vision of creating economic opportunity for every one of the 3.3 billion people in the global workforce. To get there, we are delivering personalized experiences built around members and their identity, network and knowledge. We believe this focus will give us the ability to…

LinkedIn, the ubiquitous social network for professionals, has crossed the 300 million member mark, the company announced today. Around 100 million of those folks live in the U.S., with the other 200 million coming from the rest of the world. LinkedIn will focus heavily on the international crowd as it seeks to become an indispensable tool for the global workforce. “While this is an exciting moment, we still have a long way to go to realize our vision of creating economic opportunity for every one of the 3.3 billion people in the global workforce,” LinkedIn’s Deep…

Facebook is getting closer to LinkedIn’s territory: Facebook Adds Professional Skills Category for Job Seekers I don’t think this would have been a big deal two years ago, but since LinkedIn started making changes since before the IPO (taking away features, moving stuff behind the premium level, changing focus from a professional networking site to a source of news, and otherwise making LinkedIn less important to professionals), I would say this is an interesting move for Facebook. Could it even be possible for Facebook to compete with LinkedIn on the professional side?  People…

Most career paths today are not linear—people hold temporary roles, take on new roles within the same company, take time off, have gaps of unemployment, and even change industries altogether. Wherever your personal career journey has taken you, it’s important to figure out how to communicate that story to a potential employer. Here’s how to represent the following scenarios on your LinkedIn Profile: Representing Unique Career Paths on LinkedIn from…

Every workplace has its own unique cast of characters who drive the overall culture of the organization. Regardless of how harmonious this culture may appear, we must keep in mind that every cast member is different and has the ability to contribute to or detract from that harmony. The challenge is that when it comes to spotting what sets us apart, we tend to focus on superficial differences such as gender, race, and ethnicity. Although it’s natural to focus our attention on the obvious, it’s not always the right path, particularly when it comes to building relationships and fostering…

Thea Kelley is a job coach I trust based out of San Francisco.  She left a comment on my JibberJobber post last week pointing to a post she recently wrote on how to build your list of target companiesk using LinkedIn.  It’s a great post – check it out here. In my response to Thea, I said the thing she was missing in her post was to say to track all this stuff (companies, contacts, conversations, follow-up, etc.) using JibberJobber. Build your list. Talk to people. Nurture relationships. Track it all in JibberJobber. Missing one of those four?  Go back and do it again!

I still abhor (hate) this feature in LinkedIn. More on that below.  You can read Andy’s post to see what the changes are (if you care about the wvyp feature)… I want to address this part of his post: What I have a problem with is the way that LinkedIn currently shares that information via WVYP.
