Earlier this year I joined LinkedIn to lead the company’s public policy and government affairs initiatives and to help LinkedIn achieve its mission of connecting the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful. Making a professional connection in some ways is a simple action, but it’s a simple action that can have a profound impact on a person’s education and career. At LinkedIn we’re working on making connections deeper and more meaningful by developing the Economic Graph – a digital map of the global economy. We believe that the Economic Graph will help…

    Jason Alba
    11 Nov 2014 | 9:42 pm
I’m in the process of experimenting with LinkedIn Articles (aka, posts).  Unless you are an “influencer,” you MUST work to get your article in front of others.  Don’t trust that just by posting people will see it. Case in point, I’ve had a number of articles that have done okay… my last one (written yesterday) has only 52 views.  This is because I wrote it but didn’t share it. You can share your articles on each of the social networks you want, but there is a super easy way to share them that I recommend. Either before you have published your…

This has changed at least once… but here’s how I currently find articles I’ve written on LinkedIn. Way 1 From Your Profile Page (the one everyone else sees): Click on Profile at the top of any page once you are logged in: Scroll down a little bit until you see the last three posts.  You can either click on a link to see all of your posts (#1) or you can click on any of the last three posts (#2) to see that individual post and the comments: Way 2 The old way that I used to see posts was to click on the little pencil icon from my home page… in the box where I would put…

You can seem an image on the August post. Since then I was almost resolved to give up on Group Announcements……

  • LinkedIn for Education: Helping Employers Hire Students

    Alicia Dodd
    20 Nov 2014 | 3:30 am
Five weeks ago, I started a series that highlighted all of the different ways that LinkedIn has focused on students and education through its “YOUnivesity” dashboard. This week, I’ll close out the series by discussing how LinkedIn has made it easier for employers to find great entry-level employees and interns using resources made available by LinkedIn. Employers on LinkedIn can navigate to the “YOUniversity” dashboard and jump over to the employers tab. As a reminder, the “YOUniversity” dashboard is found by clicking on the interests tab and selecting the “Education” link.

Remember that time you graduated from college and all you got was a degree and this lousy children’s book? Good news, LinkedIn can help take you to the places you want to go. When I graduated from Elon University last year, I was both excited and slightly terrified. Yes, graduating meant finishing school and moving on to a new chapter, but it also meant moving and finding a job – yesterday. The first step, when the party ended, was clear: clean up and move out. As luck would have it, my lease was about to end. So I set out to do some major spring-cleaning and gave back my keys. Step…

Mentoring relationships can be life-changing. They enrich both mentor and mentee. The mentee learns, grows, has an accountability partner and the mentor has the chance to speak into, share knowledge, expertise and wisdom. The right mentor/mentee relationship can be pivotal. Everyone benefits. A large swath of our clients are 50+ and find that technology, and the speed with which it’s changing our personal and professional worlds, daunting. We’ve now come to part three of the five part series on LinkedIn’s “YOUniversity” Dashboard. In part one and part two I covered how the dashboard works with prospective and current students; helping them to do things such as rank universities and find their first job. In part three I’m going to explore the question: What’s in it for alumni? The LinkedIn “YOUniversity” dashboard is great for not just students, but alumni as well. I know that it’s easy to forget about your college or university once you set foot out into the “real world”. For many, the only time we…
