  • Look who’s following you across Groups on LinkedIn

    Ian McCarthy
    6 Nov 2009 | 6:08 pm
A couple days ago, we launched several new features aimed at enhancing the professional conversation in LinkedIn groups. We call one of those features “following”. Following makes it easier for you to see contributions made by your connections and other people you value within your groups. To get you started, you’re already following all of your connections and they’re following you. But it doesn’t stop with your connections: to follow someone who is not a connection, just click “Follow Their Name” under their name on a discussion page or on the Member page in your group. Now…

Editor’s note: This blog post is authored by Andrew He, a Stanford student currently completing his Master of Sciences degree in Computer Science.  Andrew is a two-time LinkedIn intern, and spent the summer of 2009 focused on the LinkedIn mobile platform. I suppose this blog post could have been entitled: “What I did on my summer vacation.” Truth be told, I’m just thrilled to see LinkedIn for iPhone v1.5 in the iTunes app store. There’s nothing more gratifying as a developer than to see your work go live. This past summer, I was able to dedicate myself to…

The story is now legend of Vince Lombardi’s first practice session after his team suffered a significant loss. Players and coaches were wondering what area of their team would become the focus of the practice. Would it be the defense, the offense, running, passing or kicking? No, Lombardi said they were going to focus on the basics. He held a ball in his hand and said “gentlemen, this is a football”. Sometimes we need to think about the basics that drive the circumstances surrounding us. It is often too easy to tinker with one particular aspect rather than getting back to basics. I…

The following information was provided by Pete Van Cleave, Water for Life http://www.waterforlifeonline.com/ Everybody is susceptible to being scammed, simply because they want to believe! Nowhere is this more obvious than in the drinking water business. Politics spawns a lot of lies in the water business since the government is responsible for making tap water. Franchising and exclusive territories also spawn lies.  The internet has spawned much nonsense, too, with it’s uncensored, wild west sort of approach to business. It is truly alarming to see the explosion of internet products…

I have been on the road for 5 of the last 7 work days.  My trip last week was from Wednesday through Friday, and then I was on the plane this week on Monday, returning late Tuesday evening. Since important emails come every day, I am usually in the wrong Covey Quadrant… that’s my problem… but if…

I was just browsing through a few first degree contacts on LinkedIn and found a guy who I had lunch with a couple of years ago.  I wondered what he was up to and something caught my eye: in his LinkedIn Summary he has a “list of skills.” This is a list of his features. Have you heard marketers say that they sell benefits, not features? If that is the case, why do we sell features? Think about this: Feature: I speak Spanish fluently. Benefit: Because I speak Spanish fluently I can help your organization grow it’s international operations in Spain, Mexico or Argentina. The…
